Melissa has always been drawn to puzzles — the harder, the better. So when someone told her macarons were too hard to make, she took it as a challenge. Between client calls and work travel, she found a new kind of stress relief: obsessing over the delicate balance of egg whites, almond flour, and ganache.
They became the perfect puzzle. Tiny. Temperamental. Beautiful. Delicious. A single bite of sweetness instead of a full slice of pie (because let's be honest, she'd eat the whole thing. FYI, she approved that line of copy.)
What started as a weekend hobby spiraled into full-blown obsession: batch after batch — some flops, some phenomenal — and eventually, time spent in professional kitchens, refining her technique and mastering the craft.
Jennifer
The Creative Visionary
Meanwhile, Jennifer — a digital marketer by trade and very willing taste tester — had spent years launching brands and running campaigns. But this was the first one that felt personal. She had always loved building things from scratch, but this time it was literal: color palettes and ganache, packaging and pastry shells.
What started as casual feedback (and second helpings) turned into creative direction, copywriting, and more than a few "we should totally do this" moments.
When the macarons got too good to keep to ourselves, we decided to turn our shared obsession into something real. And so, Mielou was born. (Honestly? It was either start a business or eat them all ourselves.)
Mielou — What Does it Mean?
It's not just a word. It's a wink. Miel means “honey” in French — a nod to our sweet, golden approach to life, and our love for real, indulgent ingredients. Lou is a name we call each other (It's a story that requires a cocktail), grounding our French-inspired creations in something far more personal. Together? Mielou is a little luxe, a little playful — exactly how we think dessert should be.
